Product Highlights
- All-Dielectric / No Grounding:Fully dielectric and metal-free, ASU cable needs no grounding, resists lightning and EMI, and installs safely on power poles and in high-voltage zones.
- Self-Supporting / No Messenger Wire:Self-supporting design with FRP strength members carries its own weight between poles, eliminating messenger wire, strands and grounding for one-step installation.
- Short-Span Optimization:Engineered for 80m, 100m and 120m spans, ASU covers typical urban and rural pole routes and FTTH last-mile runs without the over-engineering of long-span ADSS.
- Cost Advantage:Up to 20% lower cost than comparable short-span ADSS by removing aramid yarn and shrinking the structure, plus savings on lighter hardware and faster installation.
- Lightweight & Compact:Compact round profile with about 6.5-8.5mm diameter and 45-65kg/km weight cuts wind and ice load on poles and allows lighter, cheaper attachment hardware.
- Reliable Construction:Central PBT loose tube with water-blocking gel and twin FRP members under a UV-stable PE/HDPE jacket deliver reliable moisture, tensile and weathering protection.
- Optical & Mechanical Performance:G.652D or G.657A1/A2 fibers, 2-24 cores, attenuation up to 0.36/0.22 dB/km, -40 to +70 degrees C operating range and 25-30 year outdoor service life.
- Broad Applications:One cable for FTTH, FTTA, power-line routes, campus, CATV/CCTV and railway links; also small enough for duct and indoor runs, not just aerial use.
- Customization & Delivery:Customizable core count, jacket, printing, 1-4km wooden drums and OEM branding, with meter marking and drum labels for easy installation and stock control.

FAQ
- What is an ASU fiber optic cable?
- ASU stands for All-dielectric Self-supporting Universal (Single-tube) cable. It is also known as mini ADSS cable - a compact, all-dielectric, self-supporting aerial cable with a central loose tube and twin FRP strength members. It carries its own weight between poles without a messenger wire, and is optimized for short-span FTTH distribution and drop applications (80 m / 100 m / 120 m).
- What is the difference between ASU and ADSS cable? Which one should I choose?
- Both are all-dielectric and self-supporting. ASU uses a single central tube, supports 2-24 fibers, spans up to 120-150 m, and costs less; ADSS uses stranded loose tubes, supports up to 144+ fibers and spans of hundreds of meters to 1 km+, and suits backbone/long-haul or river crossings. Rule of thumb: short urban/suburban FTTH spans with pole spacing <=120 m -> ASU; long spans or high fiber counts -> ADSS.
- What do the numbers 80 and 120 in the model mean?
- They indicate the maximum designed span in meters - ASU-80/AS80 for spans up to 80 m, ASU-120/AS120 for spans up to 120 m. Please match the rated span to your actual pole spacing; over-spanning creates excess sag and fiber strain.
- What fiber counts are available?
- Standard range is 2 to 24 cores (2/4/6/8/12/24), with 2-12 cores in the most common single-tube configuration. Custom counts within this range are available.
- Does ASU cable need grounding? Is it safe near high-voltage power lines?
- No grounding is required. The cable contains no metal - strength members are FRP and the sheath is dielectric - so it does not conduct, induce current, or attract lightning. This makes it safe to install on the same poles as power lines and in lightning-prone areas, immune to EMI.
- What is the maximum span? What if my pole spacing is longer?
- Standard ASU is rated for 80 m / 100 m / 120 m (up to 150 m in some designs). If your actual pole spacing exceeds the rating, do not over-span the cable - we recommend a higher-strength version, shorter poles, or moving to ADSS for that section.
- What temperature range and service life can it handle?
- Operating temperature is -40 C to +70 C; installation -20 C to +60 C. The UV-stabilized PE/HDPE sheath is designed for outdoor service of 25-30 years.
- Is ASU cable only for aerial use? Can it go into ducts?
- It is designed for self-supporting aerial installation, but its compact diameter (6.5-8.5 mm) and waterproof core also make it suitable for duct installation, building risers and indoor end sections - a real advantage in space-limited conduits.
- Why is ASU cheaper than ADSS? How much can I save?
- ASU eliminates the heavy aramid-yarn reinforcement of stranded ADSS and uses a smaller, simpler single-tube construction, cutting both material and manufacturing cost. Industry comparisons for the same fiber count show savings of 20% or more versus a comparable short-span ADSS, before counting lighter hardware and faster installation.
- What should I do if my question is not listed above?
- Please send your inquiry to the merchant, and you will get the answer in the first time.
